HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANNA RUSSELL
This woman is on my list of comic geniuses. She is known primarily for her solo performances of musical parody.
This postcard depicts her presenting her monologue “How to Enjoy Your Bagpipe,” one of her “Music Appreciation Talks out of the series Wind Instruments I Have Known.” You can listen to this HERE.
Possibly her most famous piece is her 30-minute synopsis of Richard Wagner’s four-opera epic, Der Ring des Nibelungen. A video version of this from her farewell concert (in three parts) can be seen HERE. (Fortunately, I saw one of her farewell performances at Carnegie Hall.)
Several recordings were made of her concert performances and are STILL AVAILABLE.
